Single Dads: Getting Back into the Dating Game

Single dads are known for putting their heart and soul into their kids - but like most other single parents they often forget to get back into the game when it comes to their love life. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, there are almost 13.6 million single parent families in the U.S. right now and out of these single-father homes are the most common type of family situation. As more and more fathers prove to be better parents, courts across the country are increasingly settling custody cases in their favor.

Boxes and labels

Now that you are a single father, there will be lots to do which was not done before, like spending time with your kids, accommodating their needs and demands, juggling a career, maintaining a social life and making room and time for romance. This is why its time you compartmentalize your life and deal with things on a priority basis. Yes, your kids will always be your biggest priority, but if you are seriously interested in meeting someone new you need to work for it.

Its not as bad as it seems

Don't dwell on the past. Your relationship with the mother of your children may have a special part of your heart, but that doesn't mean there's no room for anyone else. You are back in the game and this time round you are wiser and better prepared. According to a survey, most women prefer to date single dads since they are much more caring, mature and generous than single men with no kids.

Feed your soul as well

If you have custody of the kids, then you will be juggling a lot of balls simultaneously. Being a mom and dad at the same time can be a daunting task and will leave very little time for yourself. However, having time for yourself is important, since you can not live up to your new responsibilities without rejuvenating your body and soul. So nurture your soul by doing things for yourself, like joining a gym or a basketball league. This could help you connect with other dads as well.  Get a massage, go watch a movie or attend a concert, take a mini vacation, make new friends. All these activities will help you live up to your responsibilities better in the long run and of course meet new potential partners.

Put your best foot forward

If your routine makes it difficult for you to meet potential partners in real life, then its time to set up an online dating profile. There are several sites that offer single parents a chance to take a break and paint the town red. In a manner of speaking they are an easier option than real life dating because a lot of the information that you would typically find out by your fourth or fifthh date is already up on someone's profile for you to peruse through.

Everyone is looking for some love and affection, but only those who make the effort actually get anywhere. Don't get stuck in a rut because you love your kids too much. Always remember that for you to be able to take care of other people you must first take care of yourself. So have fun fishing in the dating pool!
