Doing Something Stupid Today only to Regret Tomorrow

The new age of Big Brother is here with a bang and you’re being watched by someone most of the time.

Ever since the concept of Big Brother has been manifested by the technology enhanced media, carrying out a background check on people is just one click away. All a person needs to do is visit someone’s social media profiles to satiate their intense yearning for information.

As it turned out, employers checking Facebook and other social media profiles of potential employees have also become an “in-thing”. Far too many employed youth are cursing the day their boss checked their profile and read something that left a bad taste in the boss’s mouth. But there is a time-tested way to avoid rubbing your employer the wrong way which is usually referred to as exercising caution.

Social Networking Revolution

In terms of bringing around drastic global change, social networking can truly be termed as a global revolution. This concept enabled almost a billion people around the world to remain connected to their families and friends.

Most social networking sites are now designed in a way that it allows individuals and companies to market their ideas and strengthen their contact list.

Social networking works on the manipulation of basic human attributes, such as self-obsession and the need to seek recognition from a large number of people, which can take the form of addictive behavior as time goes on.

Get over Self-Obsession

Self-obsession can make kids do funny things at odd times. In the desire to satisfy the need to magnify their self-importance, children can share more than is required on their social networking profile, thus surrendering their privacy to the whole wide world.

As parents, you should inform your children about adhering to social networking safety rules to ensure that their employment chances in the future are bright.

Party All the Way

Wisdom from the virtual world dictates that snapshots of people drinking and smoking in parties shouldn’t be uploaded online. Still this advice is seldom followed by teenagers and pictures of teens partying find their way to social networks on a daily basis.

Though some pictures are exchanged privately online, they still leave a trail behind and can come back to hurt teenagers when they least expect it.

In this “well-informed” and “updated” world of ours, employers and academic institutions run background check on recruits to reach a final decision.

Flirty Pictures

This includes pictures that teenagers would not want their parents to see under any circumstances. Flirty snapshots move around very quickly which entirely destroys any chances of damage control. The status of flirty pictures changes from private to public the moment it is sent to a boyfriend or a girlfriend.

There is absolutely no need to leave visual evidence of your personal exploits anywhere. It is not wise to do so.

Professional Ranting

Kids might think that they can write anything about anyone on social networks because their accounts are secure. The internet works in mysterious ways and can expose information that is otherwise considered personal. Kids can get kicked out of schools or terminated from jobs just because they couldn’t keep their emotions in check.

It is better to keep your ranting sessions confined to a personal gathering of friends.

Drama Queen

Parents should also impress upon their kids to abstain from getting into online fights or spreading rumors. Such behavior completely destroys a person’s public standing in the long run.
