Picking up the right kind of Parenting Style

If you’re having trouble taming your teens there’s a chance there maybe something off about your parenting style. The manner in which you act, react and raise your kids is important because it has a heavy impact on the behavioral and emotional development of your child. The way parents bring up their children and their behavior towards their kids is product of several factors including their past experiences, education level, financial status. Under different circumstances parents opt for varying forms of parenting styles to bring the best – and some unfortunate situations worst – out of their children. Psychologist Diana Baumrind observed behavior of parents and their children from different backgrounds, and so we’re left with the following:-

Authoritarian Parenting

It is a dictatorial form of parenting, in which parents establish strict rules and guidelines. Failure to follow the set rules will result in punishment – mostly severe.

Authoritative Parenting

This is a more democratic form of parenting. Parents set rules and guidelines for children that do not hinder their individual growth. Psychologists believe this is the most effective parenting.

Permissive Parenting

Parents who are permissive do not expect much from their children. They are extremely flexible with their guidelines and rules to the point of non-existent discipline in their children’s lives.

Uninvolved Parenting

As the name goes, parents are rarely involved in raising their children. They are oblivious of their children’s demands and needs; completely neglecting their them in every way possible.
